Sears Tower

Located at 233 S Wacker Drive, Sears Tower, once the tallest building in the world, is one of the major symbols of Chicago. Some of the statistics involved in the tower are simply amazing, and include the fact that it contains 43,000 miles of phone cable, 2232 steps to the roof and enough concrete to build a 5 mile long, eight-lane highway. The building stands at 1454 feet and boasts 110 stories. Although most of the interior is used as office space, it boasts the world's highest observation deck, and it is largely this which draws over 1.5 million visitors yearly. The Skydeck entrance is situated on the Jackson Blvd side of the building. Depending on the time of day, there can be significant queues to get to the top. Signs are on display to let you know how long the delay is. It is advised to check out the visibility before you spend your time and money. Amazingly, on a good day, you can see up to 50 miles to Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. The elevator ride takes a mere 70 seconds, and will undoubtedly have your ears popping. Once you arrive you will realize just why it is so popular, with stunning, uninterrupted views of the city and far beyond. Sunsets and the emergence of the lights at twilight tend to be the preferred time of visit.
